Veins of Living Water

Think about how important water is for our life. Take the make up of our bodies for instance. According to some scientific information presented through a popular search engine, up to 60 percent of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 70 percent water, and the lungs are nearly 90 percent water. About 83 percent of our blood is water, which helps digest our food, transport waste, and control body temperature. The cells in our bodies are also full of water. Each day humans must replace 2.4 litres of water, some through drinking and the rest taken by the body from the foods eaten.

Without water we cannot live. We essentially are water.

Now take a look at our spiritual bodies. Christ is the living water that flows in our veins. We must continue to consume Him daily to keep ourselves strong and ultimately alive. Without it we are weak and unable to complete our ministries effectively. We become disoriented and often end up stumbling and falling.

On many occasions living water is presented throughout the Bible:

Jeremiah 2:13"My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Jeremiah 17:13O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living water.

Zechariah 14:8On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in winter.

John 4:10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."

John 4:11"Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?

John 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."

Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

Just as the water of the earth is essential to having a healthy life, a relationship with Jesus is the water essential for our spiritual growth. Jesus said ,"but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." The things of this world will never quench your thirst like the living water that only our God provides. It flows in our veins; it keeps us alive.
